Power Plug Guide

Pick your home country and your destination to see which travel adapters you need — with visual plug-type diagrams and voltage/frequency details.

Your Trip

Updates as you pick countries.

How It Works

The Power Plug Guide compares the socket standards of two countries. Every country uses one or more of the internationally-recognised plug types A–N. If your destination uses a socket type that your home plug doesn't fit, you'll need a travel adapter.

Adapter vs. Converter
  • A travel adapter only changes the shape of the plug so it fits the foreign socket. It does not change the voltage.
  • A voltage converter (or transformer) changes the voltage. You need one if your device isn't dual-voltage and the destination's voltage differs from home.
Voltage & Frequency

The world roughly splits into two camps: ~120 V / 60 Hz (much of the Americas) and ~230 V / 50 Hz (most of Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania). Most modern electronics — phone chargers, laptops — are dual-voltage (marked "100–240 V"), so a simple plug adapter is enough. Single-voltage devices like some hair dryers can be damaged without a converter.

Reading the Diagrams

Each plug type is drawn to scale so you can recognise the pin layout at a glance. Sockets highlighted in colour are the ones present at your destination; a green verdict means at least one of your home plug types already fits.

Note: Always check the label on your specific device for its voltage range before travelling. Data is provided for guidance only and runs entirely in your browser.
